The HFOS timeline May 1997 - Henry
Fiat's Open Sore is formed in Stockholm, Sweden. June 1997 - First gig
supporting Norwegian rockers Gluecifer. July 1997 - Appears on
compilation CD "Swedish Sins" with the song "Girlfriend". September
1997 - Second gig at the releaseparty for "Swedish Sins" with The
Nomads, Skelett and Sewergrooves. The show includes male stripping and
a smashed PA. Every member of the band (and the entire video-crew) is
arrested on three separate occations during the video-shoot for "Girlfriend".
November 1997 - HFOS appears on legendary Kafé 44 in Stockholm. P.A.
of Skelett rules this evening, making leadsinger in The Pricks puke on
stage (by pouring moonshine down his throat) and throwing mikestands,
guitars, birthday cake(!) and himself all over. Skelett will not play
Kafé 44 again - ever. December 1997 - First E.P. is released on
independent label Ken Rock. The official fan-club "When The Shit Hits
The Fan-Club" is formed. January 1998 - Right-wing extremists places
HFOS on their list over "unreliabilities" after the band had a show
billed with the slogan "Look Out Whitey". Hellonearth, featuring HFOS
and Skelett, at Studion Stockholm. February 1998 - Plays as closing
act on the Swedish "Aftonbladet" Awards. During the three-song set a
stage hand is heard grunting "Damn! I wish I had a flame-thrower!".
March 1998 - The recording of a full-length album, "Idiotia
Hyperactiva", is completed. 40 songs in 7 days. Recorded by Pelle
Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Fireside etc) March 1998 - A steadily growing
horde of fans show up at the bands gigs, dubbing themselves "The Fiat
Cong". June 1998 - A split-EP with Skelett is released. Again on Ken
Rock. Ju Desto, who is now getting a bit too deep into gangsta rap,
comes up with the superb title "Fellowship Of The Fat Shit". At least
it ain´t spelled phat, just like dat. July 1998 - Henry baffles a
journalist by declaring that he plans to be "the first African in
space". August 1998 - HFOS appears on the "Hitta Mitten -98"
compilation with the song "Blockhead", along with, among others
Hellacopters, Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Fireside, Komeda and Whale.
September 1998 - An arcadehall is occupied to host a releaseparty for
"Headshots EP" on Repo Recordings. All games free + lots of cheap beer.
Nearby restaurants weren't too amused. Great night. A near-perfect
lineup on Lava Sthlm: HFOS supporting Eilert Pilarm. November 1998 -
Zorch Productions releases a six song E.P with HFOS as a part of their
"Swingin' Singles Club". December 1998 - Darth Vaders mother hangs out
at Instead Of A Hugs apartment on numerous occations. Naturally, this
is later described in "Mother Of Vader" on the "Gnarly EP". January
1999 - A show at Vielle Montagne, a boat in Stockholm central, is
arranged to celebrate the release of "Idiotia Hyperactiva". Apart from
the police-raid, smashed bathrooms and people rushed to hospital, it's
a nice evening. Producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt is brought in to play the
Farfisa. February 1999 - HFOS does numerous shows at Fritz´s Corner,
Sthlm. May 1999 - The band appears on HardOn-Records compilation
"Trash 'em Up Baby" with two songs. June 1999 - Man's Ruin humbly asks
to release "Idiotia Hyperactiva" in the US. HFOS turn other offers
down, read through the contracts, agrees, then Man's Ruin is never
heard from again. HFOS still considers mr. Kozik as one of the
greatest contemporary artistsAugust 1999 - HFOS is touring
Scandinavia. November 1999 - Recording 35 songs, just for the heck of
it, at their own. February 2000 - The E.P "Gnarly" is released on
London based Wrench Records. American magazine Flipside reviews it
saying it "sounds like it was recorded in a urinal with a bunch of
drunkards shouting randomly". March 2000 - Drummer Ju Desto manages to
fire himself from the band. A tribute "Hey (Då) Ju" is to be heard on
"Makes Your Cock Big". New drummer Don Wanna is found crawling out
from the nearest rock. April 2000 - Italian label Proud To Be an Idiot
Records releases a split with Portland, Oregon based Spider Babies.
The very lo-fi piece is named "À La Italiana". June 2000 - HFOS hits
the web. July 2000 - Shakedown at Holger Bar arranged by Savage
Records. The place was packed, Sir Henry scared the shit out of
barflys by repeatedly attacking them through holes in the wall of the
stage. August 2000 - The band spends most of the summer recording and
mixing 13 brand new songs. September 2000 - A handful of dates around
Sweden is completed. Among these one specific in Gothenburg where The
band subsequently gets banned for life. God knows why... December 2000
- Guitarist Frank E. Male records and mixes the Skelett EP "Suburban
Rebel" for, yes, Ken Rock. January 2001 - Everyones favourite record
company - KenRock, once again releases a HFOS 7". This time the first
in their native tongue, called "Hits Mot Folkgrupp". It sold out in
less than three weeks. March 2001 - HFOS embarks on a tour of Germany
and Switzerland. En route to Zurich from Stuttgardt the band is pulled
over and stripsearched at gunpoint by german police, looking for
rightwing terrorists. When the police realized they weren't dealing
with nazis, they desperately tried to pin the band for cross-dressing
and drug abuse. During the three hour search, the cops kept referring
to drummer Don Wanna as "she" and "her". Bastards. May 2001 - The
bands eighth EP "Makes Your Cock BIG" is unleashed by American label
Rock'n'Roll Blitzkrieg. June 2001 - The hitherto unreleased HFOS song
"Back To Nothing" appears on the HDP Records compilation EP "A
Collection Of Great Dance Tunes". July 2001 - During this great summer
in Stockholm HFOS engages celebrated punk photographer GrindOve, also
singer in I Quit, to immortilize one of their numerous picknicks.
September 2001 - HFOS hit the German ground for the second time. Two
weeks tour and Germany is in ruins. October 2001 - HFOS plays a show
at Stockholm latest rock-venue the Shrine with death-legends Entombed.
The place is packed, so is the street outside. HFOS tee-shirt sales
alone sums up to $300. February 2002 - HFOS plays in Malmö at Pussy
Club. 350 people show up and lots of t-shirts was sold. May 2002 -
HFOS sign a contract with the American label Coldfront records. August
2002 - Augustibuller got a short visit from HFOS. The festival crowd
seems to like the show. October 2002 - Coldfront release two albums
with HFOS - a singles collection and the first album Idiotia
Hyperactiva. November 2002 - HFOS tour Finland for the first time.
December 2002 - Two singles and a new fullength album is recorded.
January 2003 - The British label Wrench release a brand new single
called "Patmos or Bust". June 2003 - Ken Rock release the single I Was
A Teenage Pretty Boy". HFOS goes on their third German tour. A total
success of course. November 2003 - "The parallel universe of Henry
Fiat's Open Sore" album is released by Coldfront Records. |
